We use personal information to:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your chat content with advertisers.
If you upload a profile photo, it is checked automatically before we store it. The check answers two questions: whether the image contains a human face, and whether it contains content we cannot host. It is used to keep unsuitable images off the Service and to decide whether a profile-completion credit bonus applies.
This is face detection, not facial recognition. We check only whether a face is present. We do not create, compare or store a faceprint or any other biometric template, we do not use the check to identify you, and we do not match your photo against any other image or database. No biometric data is generated or retained.
The check is carried out by an AI service provider acting on our instructions. Your photo is sent for this purpose only, is not used to train the provider's models, and the result is a simple yes/no outcome. The check is automated, but it does not produce a decision with legal or similarly significant effects: if a photo is not accepted you can simply upload a different one, and you can ask a human to review the outcome by contacting us. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping unlawful and unsuitable content off the Service.
Because Vyla replies are written by real people, your messages are visible to (a) the Writer assigned to reply to that Character, (b) Vyla moderators reviewing for safety and policy, and (c) a limited number of engineers and support staff for technical, security and customer-service purposes. All staff and contractors are bound by written confidentiality and data-handling obligations. Access is logged.
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of the contract you have with us; your consent (for optional features); our legitimate interests (running and securing the Service, fraud prevention); and compliance with legal obligations.
Some of our service providers operate outside the country where you live. Where personal data is transferred internationally we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. You can exercise these rights by emailing privacy@vylachat.com.
If you are in the UK or EU and believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption for data in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, and strict access controls. We will notify you of any breach that affects your personal data as required by law.
Vyla is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact privacy@vylachat.com and we will take prompt steps to delete it.
We use a small number of strictly-necessary and functional cookies. We don't use third-party advertising cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will give you reasonable notice.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise any of your rights, please email privacy@vylachat.com or call 0330 880 6071.
